The Science of Musical Instruments
Investigating Music
We have put together a set of activities that can be run in class or STEM club. These introduce the concepts of sound production, pitch, wavelength and amplitude in relation to music, and how these are reproduced in musical instruments.
Curriculum Links
These activities support the Sound Waves component of the KS3 curriculum, and Wave Motion component of KS4, (CfE 3rd/4th and National 5 Waves), and may be adapted to suit your students’ learning needs. They are particularly suitable to use as STEM club activities.
A teachers guide and pupil worksheet are available below. Please note, teachers must conduct their own risk assessment prior to carrying out activities in class.
