Our Research Explained
We teamed up with illustrator John Cooper to create videos that explain our research. Read about how we worked with John to make the first video here.
The Princess and the Neutral Inclusion
Modern materials often contain inclusions, which enhance their physical properties. But mechanical stress can build up in the host material surrounding the inclusion, and this can lead to catastrophic failure. This video describes how mathematics can be used to design coatings that neutralise the inclusion's effect on the host.

New Materials for Noise Reduction
This short video explains how we can design acoustic metamaterials to control and reduce unwanted noise.

Stretching Tendons: A Mathematical Understanding of Soft Tissues
This video describes how we developed a mathematical model for the mechanical behaviour of tendons that fits closely with experimental data, and can predict the way tendons respond to stress and strain.
